“Don’t get stale! Never lose the youth in you” – David Maitland, Senior Lecturer at Southampton Solent University

The word “ideation” means to create ideas but this means something different for everyone. As a freelancer, your work needs to be evidently good without a potential client having to investigate. This is a key idea that has been introduced to us by our lecturer, but in my mind it translates to a lot of things. Although I have never been a person who depends on external stimuli to be motivated to do well, I can’t help but think that maybe I should look for inspiration from time to time. I have now embarked on the first step to becoming a freelancer, so this means I need to be as competitive as I can. My own ideas are my pride and for me that’s what makes something worth doing so I don’t think I ever needed to be taught creativity. Now, it’s not a case of being taught creativity, it’s about how I can apply my creativity to being the best at what I do and I think that is what I am aiming to learn in the coming weeks.

So with that in mind, what are your thoughts? Can you really learn it or is it a natural talent?
